As Madonna concluded her ”Sticky and Sweet” tour Sunday night at Madison Square Garden, she took none-too subtle swipes at both John McCain and running goat…oops, mate, Sarah Palin.
A video interlude carried images of destruction, global warming, Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler, and U.S. Senator John McCain. Another sequence, shown later, pictured slain Beatle John Lennon, followed Al Gore, Mahatma Gandhi and finally McCain’s Democratic rival Barack Obama. The crowd roared with applause at the sight of Obama’s photograph. When Madonna prefaced the audience participation segment, she announced that “This is the part of the show where I give out free condoms…safe sex motherf**kers, with Sarah Plain’s picture on the cover”….the audience went wild!!! The rest of the show had the usual Madonna staples: sequins, fishnets, and bondage-style outfits.
The SRO crowd at the Garden feasted on new orchestrations of her old tunes……a heavy metal version of “Borderline,” while “La Isla Bonita” served as backdrop for a flamenco routine. The show truly was an homage to Madonna’s continuous reinventions over the past three decades. Here is the playlist form last night…..

She took a playful take on her ever-changing career styles, mocking dancers dressed as her previous ’images’ including the “Material Girl” and “Blonde Ambition”…before she sank into the stage to the tune of “She’s Not Me”. Madonna finished off the concert with her thumping “Give it 2 Me” from her new urban-inspired album, “Hard Candy.” Give It To Me (Finale)
The evening was a total delight for this Madonna fan. Having had tix for her last two concert tours, this was the very first concert that I attended. Both previous concerts were cancelled due to Madge’s health, so I guess the adage, ‘Three’s a charm’, really applies here. The only negative to the evening was the 9:40pm start time instead of 8pm. There was no opening act, so it was a chore sitting in the Garden for over two hours waiting….but in the end it sure was worth it.

Fabulous review there Bob! I agree that a two-hour wait is prohibitive, but it appears it was well-worth it in the end. I know many would kill to be there!
Wonderful review, Bob
She never cancelled any dates on her last two tours, what are you talking about? The only dates she cancelled were in Israel due to protests during the 2004 Reinvention Tour.
I THINK YOU’D BETTER GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT BEFORE POSTING A COMMENT……

Madonna Madrid concert is canceled
The concert had been set for September 16, but another gig in Valencia two days later still goes ahead.
The planned concert by Madonna set for September 16 in Madrid has been cancelled.
Reports indicate that the artist’s agency decided to cancel the date which had been agreed with the Last Tour International promoter. There is some speculation that it may be reset, perhaps with another promoter, but that has not been confirmed by Madonna’s record label Warner.
Nice to see that Broadway Bob has his facts straight in the wake of being called on the carpet. Wonderful, enthusiastic review–great use of that lead poster too. Thanks for being ‘Johnny-on-the-Spot.’
I don’t know if I’d actually buy a ticket to see Madonna, but I still appreciatiate getting a review of the concert, which at least in the case is quite candid. lol. Good review.
Nicely done recap of this headliner.
I don’t care for her as a performer. I don’t care for her as a person. But I guess people keep buying the tickets and selling out the houses, so go figure. Very well-done concert review.
And now she makes the headlines again with her recent arrital breakup. I see A-Rod waiting in the wings?
Oh sud of everyone!!! Madonna rocks!!! And that is the bottom line!
