Sam and Allan wish everyone a happy Halloween tonight. May you be scared out of your wits as much as your heart desires. Sam will be spending the evening, as usual, on his porch, giving out candy bars to the sugar-deprived moppets of Fairview, while Allan will be at home preparing to scare the little bleeders to death who dare knock on his door asking for cash (curmudgeonly swine!).
Viewing for both tonight will have a themed look to it. Sam will make up his mind when he recovers from his strenuous few hours sitting down. Allan has already decided two of his viewings, one of which heads this piece, and the other is his review of the day (his numerical countdown for the 1930s will resume over the weekend).
Now, Sam must prepare his kids’ costumes, Allan must prepare his meanest look (will take him around 9 seconds).

And Happy Halloween to the pair of you.
I’ll be spending the evening with ‘Suspiria’, waiting in vain (Halloween is not so big around these parts) for some kids to knock on the door and scoff pumpkin soup. Can’t wait.
Enjoy your day, chaps
Hi! Sam Juliano and Allen Fish,
Happy Halloween! to both of you too!
Who(m) ever wrote this piece….
{…Happy Halloween to all who visit WitD
that is a funny bit of business!}
Tks,
dcd
I wish the best Halloween of all to two of our most wonderful internet friends, Dark City Dame and Ibetolis.
DCD, Allen wrote this wonderful lead-in, but I wholly share his sentiments.
And Ibetolis, I wholly look forward to reading about your viewing of “Suspiria,” especially since I was one of the ones who voted for it at your terrific ‘Film For the Soul” blogsite.
The kids indeed will be well adorned today for their trick or treat mission! Thanks.
………would love to see a picture of the kids in their costumes….Happy Halloween to all!!!…………..
Happy Halloween to the entire (growing) staff at WitD!
Happy Halloween! Although I confess curiosity – which films will you guys be watching this evening? Tell me tell me tell me!
This is what I have on the docket:
- Wes Craven’s The Last House On the Left
- Them, or Ils as it’s known in France
- The Last Man On Earth
I doubt I’ll make it through all three, but I’m hoping to get through two of them.
Happy Halloween to the Derrick Family!
Evan, that first choice there is a real gorefest, but it’s certainly a seasonal staple.
The next two of course are great choices.
I will be upholding a Holloween tradition by watching HORROR HOTEL……a.k.a. CITY OF THE DEAD……but CARNICAL OF SOULS may also be watched, if I don’t leave for a late show at a movie theatre.
Allan is sleeping now, but I hope to get a report from him.
Good luck with your plans. Hope you get them all in.
I took the evening and saw Changeling, but I came back and watched Burton’s Sleepy Hollow. I don’t necessarily like what Burton does with the story, but I cannot resist the atmosphere — Lubezki’s cinematography is so brilliant.
I am curious to know what you thought of CHANGELING Phillip (I gave it 3 and a half of 5) and I do completely agree with you on SLEEPY HOLLOW–the story management is pedestrian, but Lubezki’s work is magnificent.
Yes, Lubezki would be in the top ten cinematographers working today…maybe not quite in the absolute front rank – Deakins, Toll, Doyle, Richardson, Spinotti – but excellent. Don’t forget Colleen Atwood’s costumes, a key member of the Burton team.
Hi! Sam and Lucille Juliano,
Thanks, for sending the picture of your 5 children in their Halloween costumes.
A very nice pix!

I hope everyone visiting WitD had a good Halloween!
For the first time in five years, I stayed home, watching all of the films playing live on Turner Class Movies, from 5:00 PM my time to around 2:00 AM, periodically handing out candy to trick-or-treaters. Lots of Iron Man and Joker kids out there.
And as Dark City Dame notes, that picture of the Juliano brood was a great thing to share!
Thanks so much for that compliment, Dark City Dame, they had quite a day yesterday.
Best Always, Sam
Alexander, likewise I thank you for the compliments on the kids.
I was handing out candy as well and only got to maintain a tradition by watching HORROR HOTEL. I am happy that your physical status appears to be improving, and I’m hardly surprised you watched a marathon. I look forward to your NIGHT OF THE HUNTER review, but I urge you to take things in stride and not rush anything.
Oh yes, The Joker and the Iron Man did rule yesterday!
Best Always, Sam
Hi! Sam Juliano,
I forgot to ask you about the quality of the print of the film (Walk, Softly Stranger )
that G.McCall sent to you!… After all I am the one whom suggested him to you. Or do we still have to call on the service of Alexander Coleman? (That is if his DL shoulder is on the mend!)
dcd
Dark City Dame:
The print is actually QUITE GOOD!!!! You will be getting it within a week along with some others goodies that you will love, and they are all yours. I continue to appreciate your own kindness.
