It seemed like a badly drawn out film of the original short story to me – almost as if Ang Lee was too much in awe of it and yet had to heavily pad it out to more than feature length. But I will give it (and the actors) this – its explicit central scene is really about sex as language-the scene does a lot to indicate the different facets of the relationship.

I agree, I think number 2 is THE ICE STORM. Great review Allan, I think this film is a welcome surprise this high.

Alexandre Desplat’s music score for this was amazing…especially during one of the earlier scenes where our heroine is riding a bus home in the rain and sticking her head out the window…a wonderfully shot scene made haunting by Desplat.

I had some qualms with the film overall…but I consider this a nice surprise on the list.

Wow. The first big surprise of the countdown, really. I thought this one was pretty acerage. Can’t wait for the remaining 13 films!
