I know it’s not the movie I’m thinking of, but it reminds me of “Still Life”, a Swedish (?) film about a deaf nun. It’s one of those films I not only can’t find on DVD, in any region– I can’t find any evidence of it existing on the internet, whatsoever. I caught it at the 2001 Montreal Film Festival, and I’ve always wanted to track it down. I guess this picture just puts me in a nostalgic mood…
Bob, sounds to me like you are describing this film (dvd details to left):
http://www.artfilm.ch/stilleliebe.php?lang=e
(there are a few links at the bottom of the page for additional info for ya)
and it’s imdb listing:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0295636/
let me know, it sounds good.
‘Awaiting moderation’ what gives? I think Bob would like this info…
Yeah, I figured it out by myself eventually, but I appreciate the effort (and would’ve appreciated it even more, if it hadnt been for the moderation snafu). It’s a great film and I’d love to see it again. Of course, I’d need a reliable Region Free DVD player AND a reliable PAL television set, all of which is a little outside my financial priorities, at the moment. Anybody with the means to see this movie, however, is recommended to do so.
Jamie, whenever links are included in a comment, it automatically goes into moderation. That’s wordpress. It’s ridiculous, but that’s the way they do it.
Wrong on the film. Darned close on the context.
Well of COURSE it’s wrong. The film I’m talking about isn’t on DVD, so it’d be a little difficult to get a screencap from it. I really wish it was available, though, because it was a pretty beautiful movie. What pains me is that it’s one of those sad cases of a film that makes festival rounds but never enjoys any wider exposure, beyond that.
Wait a minute– turns out I was wrong. It is on DVD. And it’s Swiss, apparently. “Stille Liebe” is the title. So it’s out there, for Region 2 people.
It sounds wonderful. I will have to check it out. I had to order a Region 0 DVD of this one…
Children of a Lesser God.
I think it’s clue time once again, my friend.
Hmmm. I guess this is what happens what Guess the Pic gets segregated from the main hustle and bustle…
It makes me sad.
So we’ll never know…
I haven’t seen it in ages, but my guess would be “Let the Right One In”
Is Phillip still checking to see if people have guessed correctly? I have a feeling he’s not.
David: I will e mail him. I am hoping we can resurrect this feature over the next week or two. I appreciate your foondness for it very much.
Philip Johnston, please name your price! We’ll pay any ransom! We want “Guess the Pic” back and not in little pieces!
