I saw the passably entertaining Quantum of Solace last night. The quality of the writing and the execution at times really disappointed me. I like the general strategy change with Bond – emotionally darker and more ruthless, greater continuity of character and plot, giving Bond an arc across a series of films. I suspect this sea change is a response to the success of the Bourne formula. And the Bournefication even saw high-tech world-wide, real time surveillance tracking given a prominent role (isn’t it ironic that Hollywood glamorizes intelligence agencies tech and competence when their real world equivalents struggle to track Al-Qaeda leadership?).
