Just pictures of ten characters from film and TV. I have picked five from film, Allan has taken five from TV…
Balthazar the Donkey from Au Hasard, Balthazar
Joan of Arc from La Passion de Jeanne d’Arc
Charles Chipping from Goodbye, Mr Chips
Count Orlock from Nosferatu
The lone prospector from The Gold Rush
And Allan’s TV choices, characters to invite to dinner…
Yosser Hughes from Boys from the Blackstuff
Oswald Bates from Shooting the Past
Snoop from The Wire
Mr Wu from Deadwood
Cousin Itt from The Addams Family
Now come on, folks, imagine a meal with Wu, Cousin Itt, Oswald, Yosser and Snoop sitting down for dinner…no-one would have the slightest clue what the other was saying.
In fact, imagine an all-time dinner guest list from TV
In addition to those five above, chuck in…
Baldrick, Basil Fawlty, Harold Saxon, David Brent, Ken Shabby, The Old Gits, School Bully from Tomkinson’s Schooldays (he’d bring Suki with him), Corporal Fraser (to regale us with stories of the old grey barn), Ed Norton, Albert Steptoe (he might even change his Y-fronts), Grouty from Porridge, Dr Eddie ‘Fitz’ Fitzgerald (imagine the case studies he could do), Geordie Peacock, Titus Pullo, Michael Murray, The Log Lady. Anthony Aloysius Hancock, The Finnish Gangster from Funland, Ripley Holden, Clem from Buffy, Jack Bristow, Tyres O’Flaherty, Ernie Bilko, Beverley from Abigail’s Party, Sir Humphrey Appleby, Alf Garnett (none of your tepid Archie Bunkers here), and, last but not least, Glasisch Karl…
I can’t wait to issue invitations.
You sad bastard! Get a life!
I do have a life, that’s exactly why I want to enrich it with such distinguished luminaries.
Newsflash, boyo, Count Orlock, Joan of Arc, Mr Chipping amd Bresson’s quadruped don’t eat pasta, so they’d be well screwed going to your party.
You’d be left with the tramp by yourself. Better have my five, that way you can be guaranteed someone will be dead before the night’s over.
I think you misunderstood me from the get-go. When I said I would issue invitations, I wa sreferring your YOUR five. I would invite THEM!
I don’t know what you boys are fighting about, but Orlock and Itt are inspired. Is that not one of the creepiest scenes — Orlock, that is — in film?
Fabulous list.
Hey Rick: Don’t mind us, we’re just perpetuating our two-man show here! Ha!
I totally agree with what you say there about that creepy scne, one of cinematics most unforgettable.
Thanks very much, our very good friend.
I don’t know all those television characters, but I agree that Orlock, Cousin It, The Little Tramp and Joan of Arc are excellent choices. Chips too.
Hi! Allan, Sam, Rick, Bobby and WitD readers….
Great choices, but just like Bobby McCartney,
I’am not familiar with the television (I’am not even going to “bore” your readers with “why” I’am not familiar with the television characters.) and some of the films characters, but I have to agree with Rick, when he said, “Is that not one of the creepiest scenes — Orlock, that is — in film?”
Rick, I think that the film is “creepy,” but Sam Juliano and Allan Fish, just like Rick and T.S., choices…I think that your choices are very interesting too!….
(I’am quite sure that T.S., is going to “approve ” of your choice of (Charlie) Chaplin.)
Now the question is Who are the 5 people (bloggers) that you plan to tag? but, I really don’t think that you are “obligated” 😕
to tag 5 of your fellow bloggers. 😕
I have already been tagged by Rick, from over there at Coosa Creek Mambo.
and once I feel a little better!…I plan to get started on it….
Dcd 😉
Ha Dee Dee!!!
Well, as far as tagging five others, I am wondering if I am really doing them a favor, even if this endeavor is also a lot of fun. That Orlock character is indeed creep, as I’ve discussed with Rick.
I look forward to your own choices!!!!
Great list, Sam! (Allan, I’m unfamiliar with most of your characters, though Cousin Itt is an inspired pick).
We even share a character – your top pick (and personal icon). But all of your choices are excellent, even Mr. Chipping, a warm and likable person in a movie I didn’t much care for otherwise.
