Wonders in the Dark is a blog dedicated to the arts, especially film, theatre and music. An open forum is highly encouraged, as the site proctors are usually ready and able to engage with ongoing conversation.
Right now, no clue, but I will be thinking on it, Movie Man. Nice work here!
Boyz From the Hood.
That’s BOYZ N THE HOOD, Joe!
Dunno, but it looks like she’s been told she’s been going to watch the 6 hour cut of Costner’s The Postman.
ONCE WERE WARRIORS
Interesting, if incorrect, guesses. I’ll allow a few more before dropping a hint tonight or tomorrow (is that how it’s supposed to work, Allan & Sam?)
Yes indeed Movie Man. That is pretty much the way we do it. Thank You.
Allan, the thing I like about Costner’s ambitious epics is that they always got clever nicknames when insiders wanted them to fail: Kevin’s Gate for Dances With Wolves, and (even better) Fishtar for Waterworld. I don’t think The Postman was ever nicknamed, even though it became the one to take a really huge nosedive.
LOL Movie Man!!!!! How true.
Allan is horizontal now as it’s almost 1 A. M. in the UK, but I’m sure he’ll see this tomorrow.
Also, is there a time limit after which I get to do another? Or is the baton always passed, eventually… (sorry to ask so many questions; I really only participated in the last one or two)
There is no time limit Movie Man–you could come back immediately if you happen to guess the next picture correctly.
No, I mean if no one guesses it after a certain period, do I tell what it is and pick another, or do I just keep making the hints more and more obvious until we have a winner?
Ah I see what you are saying Movie Man. We have employed the latter scenario to this point.
Good, this will be fun (I’m enjoying the driver’s seat…)
Indeed, Movie Man, and one of the finest drivers at that!
Maybe a Spike Lee movie?
She’s Gotta Have It.
How about “Ray”
Mississippi Burning.
OK, I guess it’s time for the first hint. And like all hints, or at least good first ones, it should only make things more confusing. The character in this shot is not at all important to the rest of the movie. And, incidentally, most of the characters in the film are white. Good luck! (I’ll be back tomorrow with a more helpful hint.)
OK, maybe I should give a little more in the way of help: the woman is screaming because her home has just been invaded.
Could it be Goonies?
Erm…Scream. Or Scream 2?
I suppose your house could be invaded by a psychopath wearing a Munch inspired mask.
This is a terrible guess and for that, I apologise.
“ET” perhaps.
Not a great guess either.
No, no, and no!
Jon, I said “most” of the characters in the movie were white, not “all”! (unless you count E.T.)…
OK, it’s time for another hint. This film shares its release year with jennybee’s recent pick. And no, it’s not Benny & Joon…or Dennis the Menace, though it would be kind of awesome if it was the latter.
OK Movie Man, with that clue I’m going to guess………..ARMY OF DARKNESS?
You know, I’d completely forgotten that scene in Schindler’s List. You really had me there, MovieMan. 🙂
No, jennybee, and it’s not Nightmare Before Christmas either!
(And Sam, believe it or not, I actually have not seen that movie despite having a good friend who is a devoted Evil Dead freak!)
“Super Mario Bros”? 😉
I am not proud of this, but I saw that film around 5 times in theaters…
Good guess, Jon! But no.
It is, however, an adaptation – but of a TV show, not a video game.
Keep ’em coming…
Home invasion, white people, tv adaptation, 1993 – I’m thinking The Fugitive.
Chuck, your choice here sounds like the right one! I await Movie Man’s verdict!
Brady Bunch the Movie.
I know I screamed.
And Chuck gets to pick the next one! (This was fun)
Movie Man:
You were truly the effervescent and gracious host here, and I thank you for this fantastic thread, which really had everyone going.
I am hardly surprised that Chuck figured this out. He’s a brilliant guy. I look forward to his screen cap!
Thanks Movie Man!
In case anyone is wondering the woman in question is either the sister or girlfriend of the other guy who escaped from the crash with Harrison Ford. Tommy Lee Jones breaks into the house and shoots the guy and then, when a fellow marshall (freaked out because he was being held hostage when Jones shot the fugitive) asks Jones what if he missed, Jones leans forward and whispers in his good ear (the one that wasn’t deafened as the bullet whizzed past): “I…don’t…miss.”
Does Chuck know he’s next? I eagerly await the next round…
Hey Movie Man. I just e mailed Chuck, and reminded him that he’s up next. Hopefully we’ll be underway soon. I agree that this venture is a lot of fun.
