Once again, Dee Dee, a terrific and timely “wrap” of tomorrow evening’s awards! Your diligence over the past few weeks has really brightened the site in so many ways. The Oscars are still an important annual event for movie lovers, as )regardless of how silly some of the choices are) they are still an invaluable tool for those plotting out their future viewings. This year, the nominations – apart from some glaring omissions in the Best Actress race – can’t be too strongly criticized, although it’s true there won’t be too much suspense with the final winners. While I am most certain with the picks I made in the major categories from Best Picture down on through Best Foreign Film and Best Animated Film, the minor categories might still be a bit tricky.
Oh yes, Dee Dee, that screen under the visual effects is utterly FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!
You score again Great Lady!!!!!!!!!

Hi! Sam Juliano,
I agree with you, wholeheartedly, because just look at the recently seen that is posted over there on your blogroll…
…you would have been remissed” I think if you didn’t at least “tip your cap” to the Oscars@…
…By the way, I found an articles out there in the blogosphere…that I think your readers will be interesting in reading about the Oscar@ race…I plan to share it with them tomorrow.
Sam Juliano said,”regardless of how silly some of the choices are…”
Oh! yes, I blame that on the Academy voters…to a certain extent…
…Sam, Thanks, for the compliment…as usual and take care!
DeeDee 😉
[…] Round-up of all his choices Best Actor Best Actress Best Supporting Actor Best Supporting Actress Nominees are announced […]
I concur that this is a great Oscar lead-in. And I’ll be putting just about every choice down on my own Oscar pool ballot. The foreign film award though, I think will go to UN PROPHETE (France-Audiard). Excellent post from Dee Dee and Sam!
Hi! Peter,
Once again,
Thank-you!
DeeDee 😉
With much of the suspense now out of the equation, we can at least enjoy the clothes and the speeches. Mon’Nique will probably bring some tears, if her speech is like the ones she gave at the Globes and SAGs, but I will be watching for Kathryn Bigelow especially. And Cameron’s reaction to this.
Here’s how I see it. The Academy will most likely go with THE HURT LOCKER for BEST PICTURE. Its a timely film about an issue that plaques all of us today. I only see AVATAR upsetting the juggernaut. However, TITANIC dominated the 97 Oscars and I really don’t thing the Academy is ready to repeat the same love to James Cameron again. I suspect AVATAR will dominate the technicals, save editing-that usually goes to the film that wins BEST PICTURE, but I think that all it will nail. Kathryn Bigelow, no matter what, takes BEST DIRECTOR. She WAS the BEST in this category and this award has NEVER gone to a woman before. Even if AVATAR upsets the BEST PICTURE win, Bigelow WILL be crowned BEST DIRECTOR. Other than that… Bridges, Bullock, Waltz, Monique are done deals. The screenwriters will be Tarantino and Reitman. UP for ANIMATED FEATURE and Mike Giacchino for BEST MUSIC for UP.
HOWEVER… The one category, if there is a MAJOR upset, would be BEST ACTRESS. If the Academy allows MERIT to prevail and they see through the superficial and pedestrian performance of Sandra Bulloch, then the Oscar for BEST ACTRESS will go to CARY MULLIGEN. I will put my money on one statement: MERYL STREEP HAS NO CHANCE TO WIN. As I’ve stated before, she is considered to successful at the start of he long, successful career. Mulligen has the youth, the future and the critics on her side. She’s EXACTLY the kind of performer the Academy loves to honor in lieu of a sentimental or political favorite. Bulloch is the politics and the sentiment this year. If that wavers for a second she could fall. I won’t bet against Bulloch, but if the surprize comes it’ll be in this race. I’m praying for CARY MULLIGEN……
ATTENTION SAM!!!!! Are you aware that a feud between ABC and CABLEVISION has been raging for over a month? Are you aware that ABC is demanding CABLEVISION pay an enormous fee to keep the network on CABLEVISION????? ARE YOU AWARE THAT AS OF TOMORROW AFTERNOON (my father brought this to my attention 10 minutes ago after reading it in the paper) ABC IS GOING TO GO OFF CABLEVISION TILL THE DEMAND FOR THE FEES IS MET????? ARE YOU AWARE THAT ABC IS THE NETWORK THE OSCARS IS ON????? So my next question is: IS YOUR CABLE PROVIDER CABLEVISION OR TIME WARNER???? IF YOU HAVE CABLEVISION WE WONT SEE THE OSCARS TOMORROW!!!! YOU BETTER CHECK WITH LUCILLE, OTHERWISE THIS IS GONNA TURN INTO ONE ENORMOUS DINNER PARTY!!!!!!!!! God, that would mean we’d actually have to converse with the likes of “Brain-Dead” Douglas and Russell (after he’s drunk ever can of beer in New Jersey!!!!). GOD, PLEASE TELL ME YOU HAVE TIME-WARNER!!!!!
I’m not watching the Oscars, so the fact that ABC pulled Channel 7 off of Cablevision is of no concern to me.
Yet. If this lasts ’till Tuesday, however, you are going to see one very disgruntled “Lost” fan on this site. Why couldn’t they have been renegotiating their contract a couple of years ago, back when they still had hiatuses in the middle of their seasons? Plus, this week is Ben’s episode! I wouldn’t care so much if it were Kate or Hurley, but Ben’s flashbacks/forwards/sideways-whatever-it-is-they’re-doing-this-season are always cool!
Eh. At least we already had the Locke episode. Or the Smoke Monster version of him. You know what I mean. Or not.
Bob, I waited a year for Lost to come back but, oddly enough, haven’t watched a single episode of this new season. Ah well. They’re all available online, right? I’ll do a marathon before the finale. Probably more fun that way, too…
I really hate watching things on Hulu unless it’s my only option. Also, I spend a lot of time online while I’m writing or programming, so in that relatively short span of hours between when the episode is broadcast and put streaming on the internet, I’d have to resist the temptation to lurk and seek out all the spoilers. They’re like a methadone fix to a junkie gone cold-turkey.
