The winner can submit their screen-cap to movieman0283@gmail.com. Do not include film title in file name so I can participate as well! (Give a day or two for the new picture to go up)

Night on Earth?
Nope. Not a Jarmusch fan.
Doh! Someone forgot to change the file name…
Hi! Sam Juliano, Allan, Tony, and WitD readers…
Tony, if I recall correctly, that occurred once before…with one of the 4 “M”… 😛 😉
By the way, did anyone ever guess the screenshot that Allan, said, no one would every guess…in something like in a billion years…give or take a year.
If not, should not it (Allan’s screenshot) remain on the sidebar until someone guess the title or am I being a troublemaker?
I know, I know, Allan, I’am just jealous because my screenshot was guessed in 5 minutes or less setting a World record and placing me “promptly in the Guinness book of Guess the Pic records. (on the negative end, of the spectrum…with you, of course being on the positive end of the spectrum.)
( I must admit that I was so embarrassed 😳 that I never played the Tony d’Ambra, created game again.)
DeeDee ;-D
By all means stick it up again. But never at the expense of the main GTP.
I believe the title is a tongue-in-cheek reference to a TV show and not the actual title of the movie. If I’m wrong, well, that’s why I put up the warning, folks!
Don’t worry, Dee Dee, I beat your record with “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” which Dennis guessed faster than the Headless Horseman decapitates his victims.
Tongue is firmly encheeked, Joel. The name of the JPG has nothing to do with the movie. Furthermore, I should imagine that it doesn’t really reveal anything of significance that you couldn’t already tell from the picture itself, unless of course you’ve traveled by nothing but bus and rickshaw all your life.
Bonjour! Fish Allan, (Allan Poisson,)
DeeDee 😛 🙂

Hi! Joel,
Thank-you, but I’am so sorry…to hear and read this and even though I know “Guess the Pic” is only game, but I never “gloat” at other “misfortune” in order to make myself feel better.
By the way, I think that I still hold the World record…because I think that my pic was guessed in 5 minutes and Dennis, may have guessed in 10 minutes.
Oops!
Dennis, I’am just kidding around with you, but of course! 🙂
DeeDee 😉
May I suggest that in future only clips of decently quality should be submitted.
This one is the latest in a line of some really crappy captures. Also, captures from a PC screen of darker scenes can be darker than the original, and the brightness/contrast and hue/saturation ratios should be adjusted to compensate.
Actually, it’s a pretty sharp capture of the scene in question. It’s a shadowy moment, and given the setting, the lighting is dictated mostly by the surrounding locations and their reflections. I’m not going to artificially make the picture darker than it is in the movie.
It is not sharp. I did NOT say that it should be made artificially darker – read my comment again.
It’s as sharp as the original picture in the film is. Same thing with the darkness. At any rate, let’s see some actual guesses, people. Honestly, I figured it would’ve been solved within ten comments.
It looks like Bowie or a Ziggy knockoff behind the glass. The Man Who Fell to Earth (which I’ve actually never seen)? I kind of hope I’m not right, as I don’t have screen-caps available at the moment, though I should again soon…
Nope, it’s not “The Man Who Fell to Earth”. And it isn’t Bowie behind the glass, either. Interesting guesses, though.
Tony perhaps it’s not sharp because the focus is on the woman in the back so all the elements in the foreground are out of focus on purpose. It’s a question of photography and depth of field, not quality.
But please don’t let me get in the way of you and your soapbox.
Jamie, I do some research before I mount the box. Zooming the image 200pct shows the face of the woman is more pixelated than the foreground – so the focus is not there.
Btw, your arrows are missing the target. At least Joel shows his enmity by ignoring me. Maybe you would do well to follow his example.
In any event, as Felix Unger wrote…
I think people should submit whatever picture they want, unless Sam feels differently. But Tony has a point about the dark pics so far as the sidebar goes – looking at them alongside the images which “pop” (and all the other images there do) they do kind of bring down the aesthetic. What can work for a contest – even add to it, in terms of the challenge – does not quite work on the sidebar.
As a solution, I’d suggest one of two things, personally, of which Sam can take his pick, or else delegate to someone else: choose one single image to represent “Guess the Pic” or update the image but not with every submission, only when one comes along which suits the overall look of the sidebar. (As “sidebarrista” – cute – Tony would probably be the best to decide that.) Of course, the function could also be deleted from the sidebar altogether, or go without a picture but I think that would be unfortunate. WWSJD (he’s been e-mailed).
and if a film grab is ever dark I can photoshop it lighter or improve contrast. it’s a knowledge I possess and it takes seconds. Or people can brighter there monitors, both fixes that take seconds.
I liked MovieMan’s guess with the Bowie like creature in the back… and knowing Bob loves Sting (how anyone of my generation can is beyond me LOL) I’ll guess the noir-ish STORMY MONDAY. this looks enough like an urban environment.
I just checked this out right now. Sting in a movie by Mike Figgis? That sounds fucking awesome. But no, it’s not “Stormy Monday”. And the bloke in the backseat isn’t Sting, or any other recording artist for that matter. Weird that the last two guesses have both involved pop-stars of the past.
oh damn, is this GODZILLA?
I’m assuming you mean the Roland Emmerich version (also known as GINO– “Godzilla In Name Only”). And the answer is– NO. Just out of curiosity, though, where the hell did that one come from?
the blond in the back looks exactly like the blond in that movie… I swear I’ve seen her before and I think that’s it. And that movie spent quite a bit of time in a taxi.
Oh wait now I think AMERICAN PSYCHO could be a good guess.
Very good, Jamie. I was starting to fear I was going to have to start offering up clues and hints, which really I hoped wouldn’t be necessary for a movie this recent and controversial. This is, by the way, my pick for the best film of the last ten years. I really wish Mary Harron directed more often.
yeah, I remembered an image like this in the film (I’ve seen it at least 4-5 times), then remembered that you had rated it that high. I like the film, but actually wish it was more, like 35-45 minutes more.
Are you an Ellis fan? Would make sense with your Delillo appreciation. I liked Ellis a lot in college, read several of his books.
The only book of his that I’ve read is this one– tried to get into “Less Than Zero”, but I’m just not interested in spoiled yuppie drug addicts. Spoiled yuppie serial killers, though? Yeah, that I can get into. He has a very, VERY class-centric niche that he fills nicely. I think both the book and film can stand pretty well with each other.
To an extent, I’d like nothing better than another half-hour or so in Harron’s vision of Ellis’ world, but mostly I think the movie’s perfect just the way it is. I really admire how much she and Guinevere Turner (she of the queer-cinema classic “Go Fish”) were able to streamline and clean up a lot of Ellis’ graphic violence, most of which would’ve been tasteless and just plain ridiculous on the screen.
Oh, and you’ve only seen it 4-5 times? Man, I’ve got to at least get my viewings into the double-digits before I really dig a movie. My friends and I saw this in the theater ten years ago and it’s been a constant favorite to put on ever since. We quote the dialogue out in public places. Hell, we even listen to Phil Collins and Huey Lewis in the car when we’re out.
In fact, you know what? I might as well put this in my pantheon. My three all-time favorite films– “THX 1138”, “Heaven’s Gate”, and “American Psycho”. Now, if only I could get a reservation at Dorcia…
I more or less agree with your opinion on LESS THEN ZERO, I do think you’d like GLAMORAMA. It’s AMERICAN PSYCHO for the nineties (more or less).
