I can’t thank everyone enough for their kinds and concerned words about Lucille in private messages on social media, in e mails and here at the site on the prior MMD. The latest news is absolutely fantastic. After consultations, we were told by a neurosurgeon at Columbia-Presbyterian that her now confirmed benign tumor can be effectively eliminated through the far less invasive “radio surgery” which means they won’t need to cut her skull to operate. To say that this news is significant would be the understatement of understatements, and we are both ebullient and relieved, if still vigilant on the entire situation. The doctor wants to do this procedure sometime in November of December.
On the political front my brother, Bergen County Democratic Chairman Paul Juliano endorsed NJ native Cory Booker for President at a meeting between the two men at Patsy’s Italian restaurant in Fairview this past week as reported by the New Jersey Globe:
Lucille and I attended the Burt Lancaster Festival again on Thursday the Film Forum, taking in three (3) film’s in that day’s marathon:
Elmer Gantry **** 1/2 (Thursday)
Criss-Cross **** 1/2 (Thursday)
The Rose Tattoo **** (Thursday)
That’s tremendous news re Lucille! Pam and I are over the moon about it. Yahey!
Thank you so much for those deeply appreciated words my very dear friend. Please thank Pam from both of us. Real fear has now been replaces with genuine relief in these parts. Have a great upcoming late August week!
I am so thrilled to hear about the good news on Lucille. I read about that “surgery” which really isn’t surgery at all, but just a laser beam that kills the tumor.
Amazing that your brother gets all this media coverage. I like Booker too, even if he won’t end up being the candidate. For now New Jerseyans need to stick together.
You have it framed just right there Ricky. “Radio surgery” eliminates the unspeakable fear associates with cutting through the skull. It appears that the procedure will be done sometime in November. As far as Booker, yes that is correct. He is the candidate as of now for NJ officials, but his chances to secure the nomination are pretty much impossible. This is of course a temporary alignment. Thanks again my friend!
This is wonderful news, indeed! Very happy for you both!
Your brother is backing a good man. We are desperately in need of a good man or a good woman to lead us out of this prevailing darkness. But, I will cast my vote for the democratic candidate regardless of who it ends up being. One step at a time.
Thank you so much Duane! The news had us all ecstatic and relieved beyond words. Concern is there but on a much different plane now.
I’m sure you have figured out the current support for Booker from my brother and the other Democratic Chairmen throughout New Jersey is a home-team proposition in view of the candidate currently serving as a U.S. Senator. Yes to say he is a long-shot is an understatement, but for now in the early stages of the process it is I believe proper to stand behind him. Down the line they all can and will re-position. I agree with you more than I can express here that we need to focus on defeating Trump at all cost. Have a fabulous upcoming week my friend and thank you!
Good news about Lucille…..Yeah! My copy of the BIGGEST LITTLE FARM is arriving tomorrow, I can hardly wait!! I am also going off line for awhile…just having my phone with me so I will not comment the next couple of weeks… (Birthday is 23rd) Good health to all…
Patricia, trust you had a fantastic birthday event this week! Thank you so much for the kind words about Lucille. I absolutely adore THE BIGGEST LITTLE FARM, which is surely one of the best documentary films this year and greatly look forward to your report on it! Wishing you a great time during your brief pull-back as the summer winds down.
Big sigh of relief for Lucille.
RIP Peter Fonda. If anyone hasn’t seen The Hired Hand yet, do yourself a favor and watch it. A treasure.
The death-defying physical comedy of Buster Keaton is on display at TCM today. Why TCM chose to program Sherlock Jr., Seven Chances, and Steamboat Bill Jr. in the wee hours is a little baffling.
Fathom (1967). “Fathom. It’s short for Elizabeth.” Hahaha. That’s funny. Spy caper has something to do with skydiving and a missing nuclear bomb, but it’s really about Raquel ‘Fathom’ Welch’s bootylicious curves; she’s an even wetter dream than Bisset in ‘The Deep’ (1977). Spoofery so bad it’s awful and I got a bang out of every one of the movie’s absurdities. Also, I have no desire to ever watch it again.
Mark, thank you so much for the words of concern for Lucille. It is indeed a big relief and rather a defining one for us at present. I had planned to post a mention of Peter Fonda’s death but somehow when I wrote this MMD post I inadvertently left it off. Who can ever forget his performance in EASY RIDER and later in ULEE’S GOLD. Hmmm, I haven’t seen THE HIRED HAND and must indeed rectify that lamentable viewing blind spot. Of course I have always loved those Keaton titles which I am many other own on either blu ray or DVD (for me the former on the Kino releases) but the odd time to air them is indeed bizarre. I much enjoyed your erotic ruminations on FATHOM which I do remember much as I do THE DEEP which is indeed most forgettable and banned from re-viewing. Have a great upcoming week my friend!
Fantastic news on Lucille. Please give her my best!
Many thanks to you Frank. Will do. Have a fabulous upcoming week!
