For quite some time moving forward routines will be sustained and indoor living will only be abbreviated for those much concerned about trips for groceries and medicine Between hearing the daily reports, watching movies and classic television and reading our lives we have settled into a new norm, one seemingly destined to persist for moths moving forward. It seems so surreal, but this is all an unconscionable reality’ one measured and contingent upon a fair amount of sacrifice. My apologies for my slow response to comments. I greatly appreciate them and will get to them very soon. Thanks to Jim Clark, J.D. Lafrance and Marco Tremble for keeping the site relevant with their excellent reviews and essays.
Wishing all our friends and readers to keep safe and ride this calamity out to a successful conclusion. Love to all our friends stateside and abroad.
Hope all you hunker downers are staying safe and sane.
“Oh, Gator. The world of social distancing is a sick and boring life.”
Girlfriends (Claudia Weill, 1978). This is canon.
So where’s the flipping Blu-ray/DVD, Criterion? Melanie Mayron, Anita Skinner, Eli Wallach, Christopher Guest, Bob Balaban, and Viveca Lindfors would like a word.
Criterion has released a real ripsnorter – “Destry Rides Again” with Stewart and Dietrich. Includes an essay by one of the best film writers around. One of the essentials, and I wish TCM would air it more often.
Hahahahaha Mark, ADORE your “Female Trouble” reference, a great take on that “heterosexual” framing line! And right back at ya on the more serious aspect of your urging.
I totally agree with you on Farran Smith Neame’s awesome essay on the DESTRY blu-ray and am so happy to have her as a good friend. As to GIRLFRIENDS I concur it is long overdue for a blu ray release and am also a fan.
Wishing you indoor bliss my friend.
Dear Sam,
Good to get your update. We are more or less doing the same except we have an acre of land to work on outside and can still go for a daily walk on an old road without meeting hardly anyone and it is wide enough to pass 6 feet apart. Getting groceries is the most stressful part of the week. I have huge appreciation for the essential workers out there all day. It has got to be tough.
We are all still well though and so are members of our family… as we stay the course, hold the line, flatten the curve and plank it as Team Canada! We self isolate and social distance like pros, giving us time to think and wrestle with what to do about the economy when this is behind us in a couple of years. Extraordinary times and good to see your note here today Sam. All the best to you and Lucille and the rest of the family.
From Terrill and David on a small island off the southwest coast of Canada.
Terrill, I am so thrilled to hear from you. I know you all on Team Canada are handling this pandemic with intelligence and confidence and I salute you all. Yes when the health threat is diminished we can then address the economy and not before. Things are tough here because of the high numbers (it is one of the worst spots in the world right now) but we are all at risk. And yes grocery shopping is the most stressful time of all. I too can’t credit those who man the fort strongly enough. Wishing you and David and your entire family continued safety. This is the toughest time and with continued vigilance we can get through it. Thank you so much my friend.
Wishing you all vigilance in maintaining safely through distancing. I know that grocery shopping is a scary proposition, so always display the proper coverings.
Same to you Ricky my friend. Yes when we have to head out it is always accompanied by a measure of fear and uncertainty. But yes, we must have that equipement in order. Thank you as always.
