Happy New Year, Sundown, Avatar: The Way of Water, Babylon and Irish Jesus in Fairview on Tuesday Morning Diary (December 27)

Yes, that’s right! Tuesday Moring Diary. This does happen one in a great while for various reasons. The reason this time was some COVID-19 issues in my home, my last aunt passing away several days ago, and no internet access in my school because of electricians there who are rewiring the entire system. I am crafting this post from my local Ridgefield Library.
In behalf of my family, Jim and Valerie Clark, Jamie Uhler, Tony d’Ambra, Bill Kamberger, J. D. Lafrance, Mark Clark and others I am wishing a Happy New Year to all our great friends and readers!
From Andrew Castrucci on the Cliffs/Cliffside FB Forum page:
“With Sammy Juliano at Rudy’s two weeks ago. I am working on a painting for his new book cover for his completed novel “Irish Jesus in Fairview”, which is planned to publish by Easter. Father McTague plays a major role in the narrative.” (photo at the top of this post).
Note from Sam: The first stage of the editing process on the massive 60 chapter work (by Rob Bignell) is nearly completed. However, the final stage, which involves vigilant proofreading, (tentatively to be performed by Bill Kamberger, who did the same for the first book) is a longer process. Yet, Easter seems doable, and it would perfectly coincide with the title and some of the novel’s themes. Easter Sunday falls on April 9th. Meanwhile I have begun writing the third novel, “Roses for Saoirse,” which I believe will publish in April of 2024, God willing of course. Andrew’s ideas for the cover of “Irish Jesus” greatly impressed me. “Irish Jesus” begins in 1972 (where “Paradise” ended”) and ends in 1980. “Roses from Saoirse” will go from 1980 to 1985). Then a book about my 11 year intercontinental relationship with the late film genius Allan Fish, before I return to Fairview again to write the untitled fifth book.
If Bill Kamberger does end up taking on the assignment, his pace will, in the end, dictate the release date. I will NOT NOT NOT pressure that man in any way, shape or form. And I will continue to take his invaluable advice, as I always have.
(Please excuse this and other posts about my novels. I know well this could turn off some people. But FACEBOOK seems to be my sole forum to promote them, prior to their publication. Thank you for understanding)
Lucille and I (with the family on the multiplex titles) saw three films this past week, all earlier in the week. We would have seen more this week, but fate intervened:
Babylon ** overlong, tedious and for the most part a trainwreck of a movie.
Avatar: The Way of Water *** passable. Visually astounding but too long and inferior to the original film.
Sundown **** 1/2 superlative thriller, watched on Amazon Prime. A contender for my Top 10 of 2022 list.

Sammy, I for one (and doubtless others) love hearing the updates on the novels in the Diary emails, so don’t apologize on my account. To imagine you have in mind your subject and potential completion plans for novels 3, 4 and 5… boggles my mind. My one novel that I was sure I was destined to write amounts to 1.5 pages of handwritten notebook paper that has yellowed due to age. Well, I assume it has yellowed in whatever landfill it’s in. I’m looking forward to “Sundown” tonight – thanks as always for the help unearthing the gems – you truly suffer through the dregs so that we don’t have to! Hope the more-northern Julianos had a wonderful Christmas (the Texas ones did) and that all the Julianos have a gentle and prosperous 2023!
Hello my wonderful southern doppelganger! Thank you so much for the support and kind words my great friend! As to the future plans of course it will happen God willing. I certainly do hope that I won’t attract any bad luck, but life is just so unpredictable of course. Well, you may still be able to expand that page to a longer work. You and I are are close to the same age and you have time to do this! I hope you enjoyed SUNDOWN! Wishing the happiest New Year to you and your family!
Happy New Year Sammy!
I can’t wait for your second novel to release! The first one was such a masterpiece!
Thank you so very much Ricky! And a Happy New Year to you and the family!
For a brief, hallucinogenic moment I flashed on Barbra’s “A Star Is Born” and remembered that Sarris’s Village Voice pan was called A Bore Is Starred. That’s good. Most critics mocked the film with the ho-hum header A Star Is Stillborn.
Plan to see Chazelle’s infamous golden shower “Babylon” this weekend. Wish me luck.
Finished Tarantino’s perceptive and amusing “Cinema Speculation,” now I’m ready to crack open your “Paradise Atop the Hudson,” Sam.
Watching “The Poseidon Adventure” until the ship turns turtle this New Year’s Eve. (Stella Stevens would’ve been the ideal Carol McCoy in “The Getaway,” but McQueen was afraid she’d steal the picture, according to Tarantino.)
Whaddya know. The Poseidon Adventure celebrated its golden anniversary earlier this month.
(Lovely Stella Stevens plays an ex-sex worker married to podgy Ernest Borgnine!)
Mark, ha, a most creative titular pan of that film, though there wasn’t another person to match John Simon when it came to takedowns of Barbra. His were vitriolic and quite slanderous. I do think “A Star is Stillborn” is more sensible. I wish you all the luck in the world with the interminably looooong BABYLON and am hoping you can find something -anything! – to say that is positive about it. Thank you many times over for hearing about your plans to take a look at PARADISE, which I suspect will surprise you in some ways! That is an interesting anecdote about McQueen in regards to POSEIDON ADVENTURE. As to Tarantino, his recent comments about Francois Truffaut angered me. Happy New Year my great friend!

Ha!!!!!!!!!
Can’t wait to read Irish Jesus in Fairview, Sam!
Thank you so much my friend!
