The eighth annual Allan Fish Online Film Festival will launch on Tuesday, May 28th. A group email has been sent to all the participants of yesteryear, and NINE (9) writers have already committed to the project! Several more may do so in the coming days (and everyone is welcome!). Still, we have Marilyn Ferdinand, Roderick Heath, Sachin Gandhi, Robert Hornak, Bob Clark, Dennis Polifroni, Patricia Perry, Jamie Uhler, and Sam Juliano. Anyone else wishing to write a short review (or as long as you wish) on any film online or on DVD or Blu-ray is welcome to signal your intentions in the comments!
Lucille, two of our sons, and I saw Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes over the weekend. I thought it was fairly entertaining. 3.5 of 5.0.

1985: In which I find happiness and poverty as an entrepreneur, opening a publishing company and publishing a tourist newspaper in Bucks County, PA . Also, finding love, and this time, it lasts. Also, returning to church with my girlfriend Lisa and taking to the Mennonites big time. Also, not listening to much music (Lisa and I had/have very different tastes!). Only seven of these songs would have been in my top 20 hit parade back in 1985.
(alphabetical)

Bastards of Young – The Replacements
Bring on the Dancing Horses – Echo and the Bunnymen
Don’t You (Forget About Me) – Simple Minds

College Rock running wild on mine. My second year of college. No more Billboard Top 40 listening. Increasing focus on albums vs singles. Still limiting myself here to one song per artist but that breadth of artists dwindles in future years as I dial in on albums more and more. Aimee Mann and Suzanne Vega on the scene. Billy is a year away from Talking with the Taxman About Poetry.
1. Voices Carry – Til Tuesday
2. Cracking – Suzanne Vega
3. Dixie Storms – Lone Justice
4. Back o’ the Moon – 10,000 Maniacs
5. Don’t You (Forget About Me) – Simple Minds
6. The Whole of the Moon – The Waterboys
7. In Between Days – The Cure
8. Heaven (Must Be There) – Eurogliders

19. Party at Ground Zero – Fishbone
20. The Band Played Waltzing Matilda – The Pogues

Dan Kocher We picked the same Til Tuesday song! I may still go back and replace one of my two Replacements for Here Comes a Regular. I love the whole Lone Justice album, but East of Eden has to be my pick. And I missed that this was Suzanne Vega’s debut year, and Cracking is an excellent choice indeed!

Mark Clark your ballot is stupendous, and it alerted me to a huge error on my own. I was thinking LIFE IN A NORTHERN TOWN by Dream Academy was 1986. It is one of my favorite songs of that entire decade. A correction will happen right now!!

Sammy Juliano I love that song too!
