It’s time for my last installment in the Wonders in the Dark Sci Fi countdown, George Lucas’ seminal 1977 film, Star Wars. Joining me for the discussion is Joel Bocko of Lost in the Movies, while I share my thoughts on whether or not there’s any hope left for the state of cinema in the wake of a summer of movies and an upcoming awards season that includes the German equivalent of an Adam Sandler comedy.
Congratulations Bob!! What an authoritative, animated, uttering engaging podcast that pretty much has made you a true master of this manner of presentation. All your podcasts have been stupendous, and are here for reference for all-time. Your don’t just discuss the films but the culture surrounding them -I fell off the chair when you said that the film festival success of Toni Ehrman confirms that we are “fucked”- but a telling conviction. Still I will give the film the due it is entitled to when it releases. Your subtitle argument is excellent–we do indeed play an art house game here, submitted to artistic intimidation far too often. Joel Bocko again offers up a burst of eloquence and equally impressive grasp of this genre and the franchise being featured. I don’t necessarily buy into the death of cinemam argument, it seems the pendalum swings back and forth, but there are indeed some ominous signs. Joel I knew you’d weave in Twin Peaks to some capacity. š Same with Evangelion!
Just an intricate, fascinating and all-encompassing discussion that I hope many avail themselves of. One of the very best posts of this entire countdown
Bravo Bob and Joel!
