Allan Fish will be undergoing an operation tomorrow morning for the small malignant tumor that has responded very well to previous chemotherapy. Because of the early detection and localized nature of the tumor, Allan is fully expected to make a complete recovery, but will be on the sidelines until around February. It has been a very trying time for Allan, his dear mum and aunt, but the successful end to this stress and fear is drawing to a close. Here at WitD we all send our very best wishes to our longtime friend. -Sam

"Juliano vividly evokes this apparent paradise on earth, even as he touchingly reminds us how fleeting it is and how hard a fall from grace can be"

Fingers crossed for Mr Fish.
Rock on, Allan!
Yes – good luck, Allan.
Chemo is a tough thing to endure. I had no idea he needed that kind of treatment. It helps to be young. Your assessment of the situation pleases me.
A few months back I discovered a Kendall St near my home and now every time I notice the street sign I say a little prayer for you. You might say “bollocks” and that’s fine too. See you in February.
Best of luck, Allan, from your Dublin cyber-friend and occasional correspondent/sharer, Jim
Sam’s assessment is welcome but has no grasp on reality. I was sent home today because they have no ICU bed to put me in after the op after an influx of emergency cases. My op is tenuously set now for next Thu 2nd October. If the same thing happens again – which with my luck it will – I will be kept in until the weekend and they will do it then.
This puts everything back, not least the second more violent lot of chemo I will have to undergo 6 weeks later. At this rate, I’ll be lucky to be fit by Easter as convalescence is 6 months after the op.
Very, very depressed. Light at end of tunnel grows dimmer and dimmer.
I must admit I am also deeply saddened at this extension of stress and trepidation. What could these people possibly be thinking? All will be well in the end, but I know that is hardly a consolation for you at this time.
I completely understand your frustration over the delay and can only imagine the stress it is causing. I know that it gives you an additional week of worry. But please keep in mind that if the operation was a dire emergency they would not delay it. So let’s be positive, and see the delay as something good.
Wishing Allan the best the best. Keeping him in our thoughts!
Allan, keeping you in my thoughts at what must be an extremely difficult time for you. All the best to you in the coming weeks.
Thanks for the good wishes all.
My prayers go out to you Allan. No doubt you will be fine.
The hospital where the op will take place is one of the two best places in the country to have this particular operation done (the other is where they pioneered it), so I have that in my favour. I just need there not to be an emergency influx on next Wednesday night.
Best wishes Allan Fish. Sounds like you are in very good hands.
Thinking of you, Allan. Hope there are no further delays next week and that it all goes well.
Best wishes Allan, you’ll do fine. Keep positive.
Hope everything goes well Allan and really wish this is not delayed any longer. Positive wishes your way.
Thanks for the update, Sam. My thoughts and best wishes are with you, Allan. I look forward to seeing you back in action next spring.
